Michael, our CEO, loves living back in the Gong, lots of Milo & ice-cream, travelling to see new places and working with a great bunch of people.


Chief Executive Officer
Michael Bassingthwaighte AM FAICD

Michael has been with Peoplecare as CEO since 1982 and has been instrumental in driving the direction of the company.

He has been a key player in private health insurance in Australia and has played a major role in representing the interests of smaller funds within the industry. His other current appointments include:

  • Australian Health Service Alliance (AHSA) - Co-founder and Director
  • HAMB Systems Limited - Chair of the Board
  • HIRMAA - Director
  • Defence Health - Director

Michael was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia in 2013 for his “significant service to the private health insurance industry and the community of the Illawarra region”.


dale, our deputy DEO, loves riding his Harley on weekends, trekking through the bush and working out strategies to get the best member value without the red tape.

Dale Cairney

Dale is responsible for governance, IT, and risk management for Peoplecare and its customer insurers. Dale has a wealth of senior management experience across a range of industries including private health insurance, dental & eyecare practice management, finance, manufacturing, mining, and transport industries over the last 30 years.

Dale’s particular strengths are in general management, corporate governance, finance, and risk management.

Anita, our marketing guru, loves her coffee with a double shot, Monday’s Body Combat class, playing online poker, and wowing our customers with everything we do.


Head of Customer Service & Marketing
Anita Mulrooney BA GDipIM GDipCom GAICD

Anita joined Peoplecare in 2006 and is responsible for our customer service, operations, marketing and communications teams. She has over 20 years extensive health insurance experience in Australia and South-East Asia, including management roles in operations, customer service, sales & marketing, information systems and human resources.

Anita’s main focus is on giving our members the most exceptional level of service, making their health insurance as simple as possible and running our operations effectively and efficiently.

Anita’s other appointments include:

Chris, our financial guru, loves his home brew, taking the kids to the footy, Thai curries, and making sure our finances track according to plan.

Chris Stolk BCom CPA GAICD

Chris joined our Executive Team in September 2007. Chris is responsible for the provision of all financial management functions of the organisation and has more than 20 years' experience in the accounting and finance field, most of which time was spent working with organisations in the financial services industry.

His specialist skills include management reporting, statutory reporting, taxation and business planning and compliance. He also has a keen interest in treasury operations. Chris is also Company Secretary for Peoplecare.

Chris is a member of the Catholic Development Fund (CDF) Advisory Council and is also a member of the Finance, Insurance & Audit Committee.

Maree, our HR star, loves getting her tennis game on, entertaining, cheering on her three sons at sport, and helping Peoplecarers develop their skills and knowledge.


Head of People & Culture
Maree Morgan-Monk


Maree joined Peoplecare in 2011 and is our Head of People & Culture. She has 20 years of HR Management experience across various industries, including education, hospitality and general insurance.

As Head of People & Culture, Maree is responsible for ensuring that our people processes and practices retain Peoplecare's status as a true employer of choice with an exceptional level of staff satisfaction. Maree supports our managers and staff in the areas of recruitment, training & development, WH&S, Human Resource policy, and cultural development.

Maree was awarded Australia's HR Manager of the Year for 2013 at the Australian HR Awards. Her particular areas of expertise are leadership development and training.


Mel, our clinical guru, loves those little packages of aeroplane food, sleeping in, doing the quiz in Saturday's paper and helping members recover where they're most comfy.


Head of Hospital & Health Services
Dr Melinda Williams BNurs, MPH, PhD, GAICD


Melinda joined Peoplecare in 2009 and is our Head of Hospital & Health Services. She has extensive experience in the design and evaluation of health management programs for health insurance members, as well as clinical nursing experience in both hospital and community sectors.

Melinda has completed her PhD with the University of Wollongong in population health management. Melinda's main responsibility is to lead our hospital assessing and health services teams, as well as Peoplecare Eyes & Teeth, and ensure that a range of health services are available to members to keep them healthy.

Melinda is a Director of the Cram Foundation.
