7 ways to get more from your private health insurance

Are you getting the most from your health cover? Here are 7 ways to maximise your private health insurance.
1. Review your hospital cover
Does your hospital cover still fit your needs? If you can’t say yes with confidence, you could have more cover than you need, or worse, not have enough cover.
There are a few ways to review your hospital cover. Use our website tool to explore our cover options, ask yourself these questions or contact our team. While you’re at it, check your extras cover as well.
If you don’t have hospital cover, now is a good time to explore what’s available.
2. Use your extras
Speaking of extras, isn’t it time for a massage? Your body says yes!
If you have Peoplecare extras, keep in mind that it’s there to help you look after your health. Your job is to know what your policy entitles you to and make the time to use your benefits.
So, what are you waiting for? Book that gap free check up and clean⎋ and get those new glasses⎋.

5. Save on tax
High income earners with private hospital cover don’t need to pay the Medicare Levy Surcharge (MLS) at tax time. Singles who earn over $101,000 and families that earn over $202,000 (in the financial year) need hospital cover to avoid the MLS, however, for families, the income threshold for each tier is increased by $1,500 for every child after your first.

Ensure you get hospital cover before you turn 31 and you’ll avoid paying 2% more for cover for every year that you’re over 30. Lifetime Health Cover (LHC) rewards you financially for taking out private hospital cover earlier in life and keeping it.
7. Go digital
Finally, keep the Peoplecare app on your phone’s front page, or bookmark Online Member Services so you can see it often. Keeping our time-saving digital tools handy means you can easily manage your health insurance, from submitting claims to checking your benefit limits.
