Natural therapies added to Extras cover
Did you know we're improving our Extras cover by including benefits for Natural Therapies?
From 1 July 2026, eligible Peoplecare Extras members will be able to claim benefits for a wider range of natural therapy services, giving you more options to support your health and wellbeing.
These enhancements expand the benefits available under Peoplecare Extras cover. Whether you’re covered for any of the new natural therapies will depend on your level of Extras cover.
Why are natural therapies being added?
Following recent government changes, private health insurers are now allowed (though not required) to include benefits for seven natural therapies. While not all insurers have adopted these changes in full, Peoplecare is proud to offer all seven to our members, with availability determined by level of Extras cover^.
New natural therapies now covered

- Shiatsu
- Naturopathy
- Western herbal medicine
- Alexander Technique
More about natural therapies
Are natural therapies a part of your health and wellbeing routine? Also called complementary or alternative therapies, natural therapies are used alongside conventional medicines or treatments. People often use natural therapies to support their health in a more holistic way#.
Natural therapies sit under Extras cover (not hospital cover) because Medicare doesn’t pay for them.
More about Extras cover
Extras cover (also known as ancillary or general treatment cover) helps pay benefits towards services that usually aren’t covered by the public health system, such as dental, optical and selected therapies.
