Step 2:

Find a specialist

Using our provider search gives you a good indication about how often the specialist has taken part in our Access Gap scheme.

Access Gap

Access Gap is a program that aims to reduce the difference between the Medicare fee and what doctors charge. Doctors can choose to take part in Access Gap on a case-by-case basis, and if they do you’ll either have no gap or be told exactly what your out-of-pocket costs will be.

At this point, you can choose your specialist with your GP based on your treatment and  how often they participate in our scheme to reduce your out-of-pocket expenses. So, if you’re up for a  procedure, say with a Cardiothoracic Surgeon, you can search in advance to find a surgeon in your area who could offer you gap-free services. Peoplecare has agreements with more than 37,000 doctors across Australia, so you’re bound to find a doctor who can use Access Gap (gaps can vary from case to case).

Check out  our find a specialist search tool to find a doctor who’ve taken part in Access Gap in the past.

There’s something important though in step 3 before your leave your GP’s office.

Next step:

3. Visit your specialist & get an itemised quote

When you visit your specialist, you’ll get to learn about the treatment options your specialist recommends for you. It’s a good time to gather information to help you make a decision about your next step.
